I do not belong at fancy places like that. Also, that many people make me... itchy/prickly. Not so much irritated as hyper-aware. I get that feeling if I even have to drive through a city these days.

And when it’s all friends you have known for some time and traveled with over the years it does not feel overwhelming because you actually want to see everyone and hang out. We all live in different parts of the world so it’s always nice to get together for a birthday, a wedding, or even for new years 🥰
Fair points. I'm not a fan of that region. I never stopped in Dubai, though. Maybe that could have changed my mind somewhat?
I recently managed to have a good time at my best friend's wedding. It was good to get to know his friends. (I was one of the groomsmen, so, I spent a lot of time with thr rest of the groomsmen and their ladies, who were all smart and lovely.)
If the party you are attending is like that, then, it truly is a wonderful time. I'm glad you are able to do and celebrate your friend!
