It's the same thing when some people say Eye-ran or Eye-raq. I say E-ran and E-raq.

Nobody fucking says Eye-ndia or Eye-taly innit?

It's not even a hard E, it's the small i, which I'm guessing are separate letters in Persian like in the Sanskrit family. Like the i in 'thin' or 'into'.
