I guess so. Wouldn't it be routine for them to protect Trump from getting assassinated ? Or is the implication that they were in on it too?

Apparently the SS had been shouting at him to get down, they heard the shot, Trump heard the "pops" (echo), followed by the graze, which immediately triggered the safety reaction "crouch behind the podium". Only then, the SS rushed on stage.
