Anyone interested in creating our own .nostr domain on OpenNIC?

If so I can setup the Tier 1 and 2 DNS servers.

This could be really cool.

Id really like to figure out a way to not rely old school centralized DNS (I have no Idea where we would start) but i've talked to some people on nests that might be down to at least try it. I know im down to play with it.

I think it can be done somewhat easily as a PoC. First iteration could be as easy as some relay operators also running their own DNS server like Bind or Unbound. Could in the future do interesting things with nsec used to create DNSSEC. But can be something aside from a NIP.

I could probably chuck some server space at it. The server running my relay is pretty underwhelmed right now.

The only additional caveat is in order to have SSL for .nostr (.nos?) extension would also have to maintain a CA with ACME like LetsEncrypt. Not too hard to setup, but for sure needs to be mentioned.

not versed enough in dns or bitcoin to really hash out if this is a good idea or not, would love your take

Thanks for sharing. My first time seeing. Will review and comment.

It is interesting project. But I think it is a good future goal but my goal would be an interium solution more based on traditional DNS but not using ICANN. There are a few like OpenNIC that have their own root DNS servers to create/manage TLDs.

You also have things like https://unstoppabledomains.com/ who claim to have over 3 million domains registered simply by creating them out of thin air.
