Good question. Maybe this is a good topic for #askNostr? Plenty of knowledgeable BTC / Lightning folks on Nostr eager to talk about Bitcoin things.

Technically there's nothing stopping you from adding your charity's Lightning wallet to your profile or using a redirect from a domain you control to their wallet (e.g., from https:///.well-known/lnurlp/ to https://.com/.well-known/lnurlp/) if you want them to receive all the sats sent your way. However, I’m not sure if this is considered "good etiquette" on Nostr. There may be better solutions around.

Another option is to set up a wallet for yourself and later donate the accumulated proceedings to charity. E.g., accumulate a five or six-digit SAT amount in a wallet under your controller and later donate it to charity via an on-chain transaction or by exchanging your BTC for fiat and making a direct contribution.

That seems a lot more complicated than just pasting an address to like water.org.

Actually, if you choose process No. 2, the last step involves copying and pasting addresses (or using QR codes or something similar) to donate BTC to a charity like `water.org` on-chain 🤣. But yes, it’s a bit more complicated than that. While the Lightning Network (used for zaps) and BTC on-chain transactions are related, they’re not quite the same.

That said, if you’re genuinely interested in setting up a wallet, whether to donate to charity or for any other reason, it’s not too difficult. If you’re not interested, that’s totally fine too. No "orange pill to swallow" in my corner of Nostr.
