I guess it depends on what your business is to some extent. But yeah, I personally am not a fan even though I think it's the less invasive type of marketing.

Yeah, it depends very much on the nature of the business and the clientele. I can't pretend I really understand how it all works - seems to come down to trial and error.

By far the greatest amount of new work I get comes from satisfied clients telling others "you should see this guy". So I put all my effort into looking after my existing clients. And that's pretty much my marketing strategy.
