oh derp, I meant to reply to #[1] who said something about an influx of users once damus gets approved in the regular app store.

and I'm just not sure what to think about it. there will for sure be a much lower barrier to entry, but I'm not sure how many people are interested enough to start using another social media app, but were blocked by the poor state of nostr clients.

I hear you, and I could be way off. But I think there's real momentum building.

It's either a version with massive moderation - which could be a net positive for nostr as it would be a door opener for people who could then switch to a different client where they see all the real nostr - or it's the real thing and will not be allowed.

If you build a nostr app which then requires 24/7 moderation and manual censorship… what was the point?

Escape a technical trap and walked straight into a commercial trap?

It would be an expensive service to onboard people to nostr. As soon as people would use their damus account on FreeDamus (web version or so), Apple would probably ban even a moderated Damus and all apps that use the nostr network.

I wonder if it has to grow bigger as web app clients before getting into native iOS.

Lots of techs don’t have these mod requirements or demands that a platform ban users who create objectionable content.

eg email, all private messaging apps, etc.

They have judged Damus as a platform, whereas in reality it doesn’t host anything.

Precisely.
