If you wanted to provide a mapping of npubs to display_names in static form, how many characters of the npub do you need? This is a variation of the birthday problem. Just curious about what chance of collision is acceptable as I trade it off against a need for hundreds of profile requests. #nostrdev

I would give up on it, as there are even vanity npub generators, so you could end up sometime in the future having a lot of npub1davidwhatever.. npubs to map.

Vanitygen has always been a pissing contest. Still, those take work so don't really affect the parameters of the birthday problem.
