I’ll take it one step further: working for the state should not be able to provide a living. The founding fathers all had other jobs. Many state and local government jobs are considered “part time”. Texas legislators get paid $7200 a year. My state, Tennessee, pays legislators $24,313. Many states fall in between that range. It is my belief that no employee should be paid more than their boss or the chain of command breaks down. IE: If the employee can bribe the boss… who is really in charge?
