This Falljökull, a southern tongue of the monstrous ice cap glacier Vatnajökull in the middle of Iceland.
This was taken in December 2018. It’s about 2:00PM and the sun is almost touching the horizon! At that time of year, the sun rises around 9:30AM and stays all day at that level until 2:30 or 3:00PM. That’s quite a feeling!
It takes a while to get to the glacier. There are landmarks along the way to show where the glacier was over time at regular intervals. It’s a sad feeling to see that the landmarks are farther apart as you move closer to the tongue of the glacier. Nevertheless when we were there, a big piece detached above us in a frightening cracking noise increasing our hearts rate, but luckily it was far enough! It was our first time on a glacier, with hundreds of meters of ice under our feet.
I love my iPhone featured photo widget. It brings back beautiful memories everyday.
