The idea of Gods literal words being written down by God himself comes from pre-Christian Judaism and various interpretations of Exodus, particularly Exodus 31:18. I think saying that Mohammed invented those interpretations is quite a reach
I do agree that sola scriptura can be like a pathway that leads people to idolatry though - absolutely
