Ibrahim Traore just did what many African leaders have feared to do, he stood up to Bill Gates and said enough is enough. Burkina Faso has destroyed the genetically modified mosquitoes funded by the Gates Foundation. A project worth billions, sold as a fight against malaria, but seen by many as a Trojan Horse.
And here’s the truth, this isn’t just about mosquitoes. It’s about how Africa is always chosen as the testing ground. It’s about how our land, our bodies, our farmers, our children keep carrying the cost of experiments designed in labs thousands of miles away.
We’ve seen this before. BT cotton was supposed to save 🇧🇫 Burkina Faso’s🇧🇫 cotton industry, instead it destroyed it, cost the country millions, and left farmers in poverty. AGRA, backed by Gates and Rockefeller, was supposed to end hunger with nearly a billion dollars in funding, instead, hunger rose and farmers became dependent on expensive seeds and fertilizers.
Now the same play is repeated with mosquitoes. Made in London, released in Africa, promoted as “aid,” but always raising the same question: why us? Why always Africa? Traoré’s move is bigger than science. It’s a message to the world that Africa will no longer be anyone’s laboratory.
