You're discounting the value of credit and chargebacks to the functioning of e-commerce. Building reputation is hard, and without some kind of bond or guarantee the average joe isn't going to risk their 3-months of scrapings on the word of a rando making good on their promise to deliver.

How is this any different than 1000 years ago? 2000, 3000?

Reputation is the credit score. What we have now is fake and has destroyed the world. I’ll have as little part of that as I can.

A vendor fucks me and I go to war on her reputation and never do business with her again.

100 years ago you couldn't call someone on the phone, pay them with a credit card, and wait a week for the goods to arrive. If you did, you had some sophisticated systems of credit and trust to make sure it happens

Are you wanting a “credit score” system for bitcoin?

Its not for bitcoin, its for p2p online shopping, like eBay but without the fees and without the fiat network. Bitcoin lightning could be used for a service like robosats to provide this, and I know there are websites that offer this esgrow. Separate from escrow, a commerce credit score could be integrated with nostr marketplace and then its all-in-one. A vendor could provide escrow services via nostr marketplace for vendors with little reputation. Peer-to-peer e-commerce payments need some kind of bootstrap to provide assurances so the least friction and best experience is possible.
