I think what I would most appreciate from a new protocol/network would be a means to self host/stream my music and get paid for doing so without a middle entity taking a cut.

Is this something likely to be enabled via Nostr protocol? currently a music maker acts as an advertising vehicle for a network, for example Spotify creates a number of tasks for artists to carry out in order top improve reach but for the most part, this makes Spotify money but not the artist, especially when calculated as an hourly rate.
