How terribly easy it would be to retreat into a comfortable exile or achieve impunity. Why is Maduro so obsessed with staying in power? Is he really a left-wing extremist who wants to take the Revolution to its ultimate consequences? Not at all.

Forget ideology. Certain issues in Venezuela may have an ideological background, but as far as Maduro himself is concerned, it must be clear that his insistence on remaining in power does not stem from ideological intransigence but from the fear that he and his accomplices have of the future.
