From my experience a diesel with def that idles (if you can't plug in the block heater this is a requirement otherwise your truck will not start again in the winter in many parts of Canada especially in the oilfield) burns way way more fuel literally burns 5-7 times more fuel. That is not good for the environment or the cost of living/production.
