Are expiring posts technically feasible on nostr?
Discussion
I think thereâs an expiring tag
What do you mean?
nostr:nprofile1qqsyvrp9u6p0mfur9dfdru3d853tx9mdjuhkphxuxgfwmryja7zsvhqppemhxue69uhkummn9ekx7mp0qythwumn8ghj7anfw3hhytnwdaehgu339e3k7mf0qyghwumn8ghj7mn0wd68ytnhd9hx2tch2deau has mentioned this. Can you provide some insight?
Technically yes, but you have to trust the both relays and clients correctly erase the post after the expiration.
Thank you.
If both client and relay servers run open source code that you've verified has this functionality, what is there to trust?
That everyone that received the event is also using a client and relay that support it. It's not about your app and your relays. It's about everybody else's.
So does the same thing go for burn after reading? Ie if you self host the relay, then you trust the relay, but isn't the client trust problem the same problem as someone can even shot your Snapchat?
Anything is possible but question is whether relays honor expiration. This can be remedied through UI and UX. But people who donât think in UX terms just throw their hands up and say âon the internet everything is foreverâ or âmy relay will save it â or âscreenshot, idiot!!!â
I didn't know they expired..
Digital information decays pretty fast .. expiry is inbuilt in the nature ..
The harder part is to make it unexpirable .. that is why #bitcoin is so precious..
