Are you sure it's because of amethyst and not the memory optimisation of your Android phone? I noticed when amethyst starts the feed is empty and have the same message. But after refresh it works ok. So I'd assume at least in my case that I have too many opened apps and Android kills some of them and when that hapens to amethyst I see nothing in the feed.
