A little over a week ago I had an hour long conversation with two women in a coffee shop. The conversation centered on Gravel NY - a cycling group I started a few years ago. I was only expecting to meet with one person but she brought another woman with her to the meet up. Afterwards I started thinking the second woman seemed really familiar. I mentioned as much to my husband when I got home. Then I started digging and realized it probably was who i thought it was.

Without giving away too many details - I think she’s a fairly well known celebrity. She introduced herself by teling me her nickname and mentioned her legal first name (to explain her nickname). Since I didn’t realize I was talking to a celebrity until afterwards, her celebrity status simply wasn’t an issue and we had this great, really connected conversation.

Afterwards the first woman mentioned that the celebrity(?) really appreciated our conversation. I’m guessing it was because for an hour she just got to be a regular person.

I’d love it if I saw her again sometime - we bonded over her love of gravel cycling. Would be incredible if she brought her bike to NYC and rode with the group. But the chances of that happening are pretty slim. Still, I can hope, right?
