I'm watching a security guy trying to make a case for a reduced utility and benefits of VPNs. His main point is that https is safe enough and that VPNs don't protect you against scammers. Fair enough. Good points for VPN? Location spoofing. And then he dismissively mentions that a VPN "just" encrypts your DNS requests...

Well, this is something I always say about privacy - "hackers"? Why would "hackers" target me?

On the other hand, GOVERNMENT...

These are two different threats looking for different things, and I encourage people to see each in their respective proportion and probability of being attacked by them.

I'll leave my VPN on, thanks.
