maybe Iโ€™m mixing this up with something else? trudeau at one point was trying to remove independent media licenses for non-government funded media like rebel news because they were the only ones asking hard questions during covid, and denied them access to press conferences and refused to answer questions from them. Thats what i was referring to, but may not be related directly to the instagram result, I assume its all related to the general attempt to centralize media so they can continue to lie to canadian citizens without pushback.

Maybe nostr:npub1az9xj85cmxv8e9j9y80lvqp97crsqdu2fpu3srwthd99qfu9qsgstam8y8 has a better perspective, I find canadian politics mind numbing.

What you said was โ€œCanada forces companies to censor news unless itโ€™s from pre-approved sources, apparently that includes entire countries.โ€

That's not remotely true. In fact, it's kinda the opposite: the big media is getting unintentionally censored. Smaller, unapproved, and especially unofficial, news sources are unaffected by the link tax laws.
