I was just in Quebec visiting family, and couldn't agree more.
In the small city where I am, they stopped picking up the garbage every week. It's every 2 weeks. But recycling and compost every week.
It's going to smell disgusting all summer long LOL
It's the same in my city in Alberta. Garbage every two weeks, but compost and recycling is every week.
To be honest, we barely fill half of the garbage every couple of weeks. There are exceptions, but in general, the compost is typically what needs to be picked up weekly by us.
