I don't think so. It certainly wasn't derivative of the grunge bands, like the artists I listed (and *so* many others). While there is plenty to criticise in Corgan's vocals, and the recording of them, they stand head and shoulders above any of the reedy bleeting of most Flying Nun bands prior to Garageland (who were most definitely Maccas music).
