Kyle and I use some of the same synths to make music

Ah ok. I was mostly tagging him so you two would connect since I recently learned he made tunes similar to you. Figures you already know of one another.
We have long conversations about synths 🤣🤣
Highly enjoyable
Oh gooood for you (Christian bale voice). That's cool!
Thanks friend. Have you decided what you were doing for a software yet? If you haven’t, I would suggest you try GarageBand on iOS to see if you like that type of stuff first, before spending $
Gonna stick with ableton live lite after nabbing my serial number from buying Note. It's the one I've heard most about, so seems like good call.
Only spent a half hour with it thus far 😅
I'll be happy if I can cobble together a minute of something decent in a week or two's time. Wish I could just dive in knowing how it works already ...
Ah that’s not a bad idea. Pay 8$ for note which gives you a code for live lite. I find note a bit restrictive in the sense that I can’t add notes directly to the grid. Hopefully they add this in a future update. Other than that it’s pretty decent
Note looks cool enough from the demo videos, can see myself using it on iPad a bit. Figured it's limited but I'm so often on iPad/phone and lazy about laptop, that it may be what I use most lol
Understandable. I like to be away from computer screens (iPad or any screen) to play music. That’s what I love about the DAWless approach the most. Turning knobs, pressing buttons and hearing the music
That's sort of the dream. Must resist urge to buy hardware I won't use... didn't tell you but I also bought a push years ago, touched it literally one time. Eventually gave it away to friend. Kinda wishing I still had it now sigh
Had a push in the past. Long ago. Issue I had with it was that you needed the computer for it to work. And also I find that having too many options (with Ableton for example) thwarts creativity. For me, I find that the more limitations/restrictions I’ve had, the better the inspiration and music
I totally understand you. That stuff is expensive. You need to be sure you’re gonna use it before putting money into that hobby
Yeah, there's nothing live lite's restrictions are holding me back from achieving at this point, so gonna keep it simple for now. If hobby sticks, maybe add in a lil toy hardware little by little. Have fooled around with some such things friend has and it's super fun, and really a more natural experience to have real knobs and such
8$ live lite is a great way to dip your toes in. Smart
Totally agree. Playing the music as opposed to programming it with mouse and keyboard. Phew
nodle and i are brothers in sythesis. maybe we are the new moderat 🤔
Perhaps we are 😂

(currently i am in a ridiculous rabbit hole building an ai agent to program elektron gear btw 😅)
For LFOs and parameter locks? Or melodies?
it's a long story 😂
i basically had an insane epiphany
i have a theory of an ai hardware device composer that enriches itself with all available knowledge on music. it has its own very deep music system – like music psychology, music theory, rythm, sythesis etc.
but then its completely adaptive to human input and cc messages on said hardware devices.
im basically building a system that you can talk to - you walk in to the studio and say give me something synthwavey and kind of like moderat. and it starts playing. and you go 'nah thats too dark. make it a bit more fun in an 80's way'... and away it goes.
And then... when you start playing with the devices themselves... it learns. and it uses cc and midi input as further instruction.
Insane right?
😂
Chat GPT but the output is played through the synths. Sounds cool! How is it going so far?
yeah kinda but it also needs to be very erm.... domain specific – music. so it uses OpenAI apis but then it has all these engines to enrich that data so it has guardrails I guess from hallucinations etc. from just a straight up LLM. but top level - yeah its chatgpt as a studio assistant. But it would be primarily a voice interface... so you just literally talk to it
Very nice!
sorry missed your question! so far its going well. the concept is validated. it can control my gear in a musical way. there's a lot to do but i know it will work, its just a case of working through shit now
Sounds like a fun project!
honestly its become an obsession
make some music they said 😂
here i am rebuilding the tools to make music
that is how ableton came about for what its worth
🤣🤣
and so... i've kind of validated the – can text based input control midi devices in a musical way bit.... it's already playing chord progressions and stuff on my prophet.... It can!
It can already spit out drum patterns. So I imagine melodies too. You have it enter the notes into ableton and it plays your synth that way?
no the current (mvp i guess) UI is web based... but the backend is a separate server so any interface could connect to it – plugins for example, a macos app... but at the moment its using webmidi... so in your browser. it automatically detect what hardware is plugged in.... it has already ingested their manuals and understands all their cc mappings and nuances... and away it goes
You give it the manual and it understands all the cc mappings. That’s crazy
