The infamous Wallet of Satoshi that everyone likes to dunk on for being custodial has been upgraded with the Spark protocol. Is it now fair to say that WoS gives you self-custody? Is Spark any good? Here's my honest review of the beta including some experiments.

Does Wallet of Satoshi accept async payments? If so, I'll switch back from Misty Breez.

you shouldn't use either one

I won't use large amounts. This is just for convenience, which is why asynchronous payments are essential.

statechains generally allow asynchronous payments, yes. this is part of the point of why spark and ark tend to have better UX than self-custody lightning

It's weird to me that this isn't brought up more often.

WOS doesn’t support async payments — but it doesn’t need to.

Since it’s custodial, their node is always online, so you can receive Lightning payments even if you are offline.

If that’s what you’re looking for, WOS already works. ⚡

even if the trust assumptions are far from perfect, VTXO models make sure you are not participating in a fictional reserve scheme. altho this is more true for Ark than statechains. not that you can't combine the two in creative ways.
