FOSS software will survive regardless of funding because that's how it was born: passion projects.

It's either professional devs doing it outside work so they can learn new skills and improve their portfolio, or it's sutdents learning.

There's nothing altruistic or communist about it. Both reasons are purely self-motivated.

Does it scale for large mega projects? Probably not, but who cares, those are always funded anyways.

IDK, look at redhat. There's always a way to monetize.
