Never used Nextcloud or any of the self hosted solutions so I have one question:

If you have an instance and I also have an instance of Nextcloud hosted on some local setup, can we share files with each other and do collaborative edits seamlessly? Can the instances federate?

I never tried but you can both share and collab without federating so I never saw the point. Nextcloud seems great for teams and businesses but that didn't fit my use so it was overkill.
