I hate dealing with Networking and following this guide i was able to do it.

there has been no maintainance except this last week when my subscription expired and I was wondering why my DNS stopped working.

I looked up pfsense. It says they use Amazon web services and Microsoft. What for? Is that concerning?

Pfsense is open source operating system designed for use as firewall and router (copied from looking up), so seems you're confusing something else
