Day 19: #grownostr initiative

I found this insect on a tomato leaf in my garden this morning. From a quick online search it appears to be some type of fly. I couldn't positively identify it, but there is a great website that helps to identify insects by narrowing them down by appearance, location, etc. insectidentification.org

I find the Seek app on Android to be helpful. It's not perfect and it's difficult to get the bugs to sit still long enough, but I like the app.

Could be a robber fly. There are many species which mimic other insects like bees. http://www.realmonstrosities.com/2011/11/robber-fly.html

Sorta looks like pictures of leafcutter bees but it’s early for them I believe… what’s the temperature in your area been?

highs in the 60's and 70's, lows in the 40's and 50's
