It's worse than that. The state gets charged for empty beds in prisons.
We need to agree, as a society, to enforce the laws on our books, across the board, or remove those “laws” so they aren’t enforced selectively… then we need to decide specific punishment and sentencing requirements and stick to them.
Instead, I hear, “ban this, make that illegal…”
But when it comes time to enforce it, 🤐
