Looking for input on setting up to run a node | #asknostr

Based upon what I've seen here - and on a few Telegram threads - I want to go with a Start9 Server One. I understand I could build my own and download the software for free. However, I want to support Start9 by purchasing their hardware with the software already installed.

I will be using fiat - even though they have bitcoin discounts - because I'm not parting with that much bitcoin right before the bull of all bull markets. It's one thing to buy a book or a beer...

I'm running lean right now as snow days have me canceling outdoor tennis lessons, so my questions are around sizing for now....many other questions will come up later as I try to maximize use of this new hardware with possibly running a nostr relay and/or a lightning node...Alby Hub...mail server...password manager...photo storage...laptop backups...etc??

If my main focus is on #Bitcoin Core and running a full node, does the base Server One configuration have plenty of growth potential? If not, what would you suggest upgrading to?

Base: 2TB, 16GB RAM = $599

Maxed Out: 4TB, 32GB RAM = $719

Please keep in mind - I was a software guy that moved over to pure data modeling/analytics/visualizations. Hardware and operating systems are NOT my forte. And I've been ONLY a non-tech tennis guy for about 4+ years now.

Thanks for the help, folks.

If you're mainly wanting to just run a Bitcoin node, the base configuration will be fine. I've been running that (plus a lightning node) on a much less powerful RPi4 for years. More space and RAM will give you room to do other things too, if you'd like.

I just bought the maxed out Server One myself.

Ah - you upgraded…making me wonder if I should do the same for future capacity. Just not certain the Server One is easily upgraded or if need to “right-size” it up front.

Having room for things I might want to do in the future that I don't know yet was a lot of why I got the upgraded version. The added cost wasn't a big deal for me.
