Unfortunately for me, my visual impairment is irrepairable as the vision nerve behind the eye is damaged, which at current, and since 20+ years, has been counted as unable to be repaired. So, what I lost, is lost.
The same goes for most of my friends - I grew up among visually impaired and blind people and some had additional impairments stacked on top as well; so effectively, this is the "normal" I know. x) Most of them will never recover their vision, some of them can be sure to keep their current level indefinitively, but some also know that it can only get worse; and as it stands, this is the camp I find myself in. Although I have implants in both of my eyes, if they fail, I am in severe, actual, grave danger immediately.
I am happy to read you were able to recover a good chunk of your vision! That's great news. :) I hope for you that the rest is recoverable too. But even if not, getting used to a slightly different feeling of distance and getting accustomed to a bit of new "technique" to get things done is really not that hard; in the end, you can still see, and that is what matters. The rest? Just oldschool learning and self-teaching. ^^ Totes manageable.
Good luck! ^_^
