I wonder how big of a psychological shift it was when exchanges switched from bitcoin to the dollar when exchanging your money for alt coins?

Did that change the view of bitcoin as the base money to being just another coin in the eyes of many market participants? How much did that change people's willingness to part with their bitcoin for alts?
