In addition to intelligence, I envision the wife to possess the creative foresight & wherewithal to assume the role of both *wife & mistress* - as if by nature, thus eliminating the need for both by making it impossible for anyone to distinguish between the two.

She is a forward thinking futurist who refuses to bow and be a servant to old memories and the past - good or bad. It’s sweet to remember but it is not an excuse to remain bound to the past, especially one that is not her own.
