Its almost unbelievable how far removed we are from the natural state of being.

I don't think it's all that unbelievable, unless you look at history regularly. Most consider our timeline progressive and modern. Many people, when asked if they would go back to the pioneer days, or even older days, would not want to give up conveniences and advances, including those which aren't good for us.
