If we live in a democratic country, we citizens are the state, or the owners of the state.

Since we citizens are the state, we should start demanding that its work be done for our well-being, and not for the maintenance of its unbridled powers.

As the Portuguese Zeca Afonso's song says. "The people are the ones who order the most".
