I suspect it never makes it through since i never get a response from the party. Can DM others, whereupon the sig value is non-zero. please advise where to start looking for the cause of this?

A sig of all zeroes is a bug. That might be a hard bug to find.
Keep in mind that the new DMs create two events -- one giftwrapped to yourself (so you can see it) and one giftwrapped to the recipient. It cannot be a single event that you both can see. The one you see with a bad signature is the copy to yourself. We don't know what the other event looked like.

so using your nostr-types repo ive generated a gift-wrapped event. when posting it to my nostr-rs-relay node it shows up in the logs, aswell as when I REQ it back with tags #p my public key. however, in the gossip log there is no mention of that message showing up. I am running with RUST_LOG=debug. Even if it gas bogus giftwrap content, I would expect some mention in the logs? Using 0.13.0
Gossip doesn't debug log every incoming event. Maybe I should do that at trace level, but it doesn't even do that. It does debug-log if the event doesn't validate.
