My response, when asked by a sibling, as to why I plan to systematically disengage from most social media in the coming weeks:
The digital era came on hard and fast. We, more or less, take its presence and role in our lives for granted. But I've been forced to take a long, hard look at my habits and behavior lately--as a matter of survival and sanity--and this change (as inconsequential as it may be seem) is a step I feel is necessary to stave off the potential consequences of blindly adopting technology. Especially the kind designed by companies that clearly do not have our well-being at heart.
At this time, when the world appears to be experiencing an enormous shift, I want to do what little I can to inform and protect myself and those I care about. So I do my due diligence, decide what is best with the information I have, and I act accordingly.
