In the '90s, being a leftist meant (to me) to be anti-authoritarian, anti-establishment, fuck-you-I-wont-do-what-you-tell-me.
Today being leftist means shut up and do as youre told, conform or be cast out.
How tf did it completely 180* in less than 30 years??
I always thought I was liberal until recently but just bc I am socially liberal. The conservatives were always the squares who were anti gay marriage, pro life, pro war, anti marijuana legalization. Now I realize both sides are just as authoritarian. They just pick and choose which things they approve of.
I feel exactly the same.
