We use a stove as primary heat as well because the trucked in propane is so expensive. We have a wood/coal stove. We get so cold and have a good sized house. When the temperatures get really cold (-2.7 F when I went to bed last night), wood just doesn't put out enough heat nor does it last long enough. The coal puts out so much more heat and we are toasty warm. It also easily lasts through the night.
It would be nice to use just wood, but, since we are so cold, I love my coal stove.
