Well, it was another rabbit dispatch day, and I'm still not ready to do the deed, so my husband has been doing it. I know, I know, I need to participate in this. I will, just need to work up to it. #gronostr #grownostr #rabbits #homesteading

When we used to have chickens, I had my husband do the deed, but then I did most of the rest of the butchering. I was counting on him doing the deed on our bunnies (we had our first litter 3-4 weeks ago), but they are so stinking cute, he is having issues with it. I might have to do the deed myself.
Instead of picking out a cute, friendly breed, I should have stuck with the plain white, not so cute New Zealands or Californians. I am looking to get another doe of one or the other of these breeds for breeding meat mutts.
Yes! When we were first talking about getting rabbits I said any breed but the red eye white ones. I didn’t like how they look. Only recently did I realize that may have been a good choice because now they are all so cute! Hubby does the culling though and I do the clean up and packaging.
These little guys are going to be hard to kill. They are so cute and so curious. I want to hold and pet them, but know that will just make it harder to kill them.
This isn't even a good picture of them.
They are so darn cute!
I was so uncomfortable dispatching rabbits. I always had my husband do it. My kids raised rabbits for 4-H. That was about 15 or more years ago. I could not do it now except in a possible survival scenario.
But dispatching birds comes easier for me.
Hang in there. It never gets easy or comfortable, but you are providing food for your family.
