1 july is the dia da #madeira and it seems the whole month is party somewhere... every area has a weekend where they set up these street party decorations and friday and saturday there is live music and lots of espetada
i saw it over in Camara dos Lobos last week and this week my area, Ginjas is also
it really reinforces an impression i have about this island, they consider themselves a separate nation but if you say it out loud they are like "no this is portugal" lol
madeira is unique even among all of the atlantic islands, it has the most perfect weather of all of them, the azores are windy and rainy, the canaries are blazing hot, and cape verde is tropical
and yeah, in recent years a massive influx of people returning or immigrating here
i mean, yeah, there's a lot to be happy about here, it really is an island paradise
also you just dang reminded me of how pretty Machico is, and i got a nostalgia
I was born there...my nostalgia is deep....🥹🫂🙌🌞
ah, that splains your interest in this island

There Madeira, not Machico...😋
Machico is an old town with a bay on the eastern side of the south just before it turns into desert in Caniso, there is an awesome old fort down next to the beach and lots of cute old town vibes near the beach, and yeah, they made a sandy beach there and people also surf near it as the artificial point they made to protect the sand from washing away made a nice break
