First immediate thought: The image reminded me of Neon Genesis Evangelion - where "angels" take very demonic-ish/monster-ish shapes. This looks like it could have easily been such an angel. It looks a little intimidating, abstract, but still has some shape to it too.
An owl, the face is clear. Maybe taking flight, the very early moments of it.
