The only thing filters can do is to starve mempool. Any consensus valid transactions will still be mined in other ways.
A vote for filters is nothing more and nothing less than a vote for an empty mempool

I thought the filters didn't do ANYTHING
They don't. But if they did, it would be an empty mempool
So knots is harmless.
Like a P320
So not an overall harm to the network, but a footgun. Won't this just work itself out then? Knots runners fuck around and find out?
Basically. But do we need that? Doesn't sound like the best experience for most people
The way I see it, it's growing the number of people who know how to run a node and hopefully use it. If or when they shoot themselves in the foot, it's not like they lose those skills; they just run the alternative. So, it's a net good for decentralization.
Similarly, there are arguments that UASF accomplished nothing, but in my cohort of bitcoiners, it was the emotional impetus to get many people running a node.
That's actually awesome! What motivated you to join the fray?
Sounds okay to me? Not particularly good stewardship. The real spice isn't about people running Knots. Hell, you can roll your own Bitcoin node from scratch. The real conflict is about OG people building foot guns instead of making Bitcoin better. Either they know it doesn't do what they're claiming and they're deceptive, or they don't know and they're inept
