The greater the desire to be right, the greater the feeling of discomfort upon beliefs being challenged. Primed for a higher capacity for external control and manipulation.

I haven't yet found an effective way to communicate with individuals who have been emotionally captured by their beliefs. All I can do is work on me, curate my wellbeing by invoking liberal use of muting.

I completely agree. However some just aren't in a space where they are willing to have their beliefs challenged no matter how hard we try. All we can do is have patience until then.

The book "how to have impossible conversations" helped me a fair amount. obviously i'm not perfect and still get emotional and reactionary sometimes. but i am still working on being a better listener and trying to understand someone even if i vehemently disagree with them.
