That story reminds me. My first job was at a kinkos type business. One time someone cam in with 10 big bags of stuff they wanted shredded. All of it was from some guy who fought in the Korean war. It was basically his whole life. Pictures, diaries, letters, documents of his service, pictures of him and people during the Korean war. I wasn't allowed to save any of it, or call the people and ask them to reconsider. I saw lots of stuff like that, but that was the worst.
