Many of us are pseudonymous as a "plausible deniability" shield against the state. We are prone to expressing opinions and posting content that is not "politically correct," and by remaining disconnected from our "true names" when we do so, we hope to spare personal loved ones from any "embarrassment by association."

I’m just a little intrigued though, as people are Anon on here but when they attend Nostr Conferences or Bitcoin events they will be seen in person, so at some stage they will be showing themselves.
I mean if we are all like-minded people here geared towards the same goals why the need to be Anon?

For me, anonymity allows me to voice my opinions without considering the potential consequences those opinions might have for me in certain groups of people. I find that in working with people, the less they know about me personally, and the less I know about them, the more productive our association usually is. It is really nice to be able to discuss ideas with people though, I’ve learned and grown so much through discussions with random people who I’ll never know except through their opinions and musings.
Interesting point, about being more productive the less you know both know. I like this concept, and it rings true. Will be thinking on this for a while.
It really isn't an attempt to shield ourselves from one another, at least not primarily...
It is first and foremost the state (i.e. those gangs of thugs calling themselves "governments" and claiming to have some mystical right to rule us by force whether or not we are in agreement, to rob us "for the common good" and to inflate the "money" they demand we use, and to take away our homes if we don't pay tribute, to insert themselves into the middle and demand a portion of every private transaction....) THOSE are the miscreants we need privacy from...

Why? Because Jesus as our Creator-God not only has the absolute right to govern us, he actually *loves* us and truly has our best interests in mind.

Why? Because when I choose actions that align with the moral guidance Jesus provides me, I know I am serving, protecting, and blessing all mankind.
