I've spent a lot of time in central Virginia, and a reasonable amount in Texas, Tennessee, North Carolina, Georgia, and Texas. The near-worship of Israel used to be mostly restricted to the evangelical folks, but it seems to have spread to conservative types generally. It's really quite bizarre in its unreasoning intensity.
