Ireland plans to use its upcoming EU Presidency (Jul–Dec 2026) to champion mandatory ID-verified social media accounts, aiming to target anonymous bots, abuse and harmful content online, and to strengthen online child safety.

The Irish government wants platforms to require verified identity for users, effectively ending anonymity online across the EU.
