You completely ignored the fact that the Primal devs still censor people.

Who did they censor?

Quite a few npubs from what I've heard. I've also seen more than enough people complain about this in the 11 months i've been here to believe it to be false. nostr:nprofile1qqsqdzwltpr635ehdzfd52tz947qlhq77x2c7j7yguwep9n258k2nusprdmhxue69uhhw6r9v96zu6rpwpc8jarpwejhym3wvdhj7qgmwaehxw309a6xsetxdaex2um59ehx7um5wgcjucm0d5hsz9nhwden5te0wfjkzmre9ekkcettw5hxgetk9u8ch5pr you've been far longer than me. Can you name any off the top of your head?

I'm honestly you haven't heard of them doing this.

I paid about a million sats for a Primal "legend" subscription to get them to stop doing it to me and they still don't let the app fully work for me

No. The only thing I vaguely remember was that they blocked an npub that was posting nudes but they stopped it and it was related to their algorithm or something flagging the adult content. It wasn’t an intentional decision to censor her.

1. I don't believe they should have an algo to begin with

2. I've seen numerous random npubs in my feed complain about being censored by them

3. How do you know it wasn't intentional?

1. Then don’t use it.

2. I’ve seen a random npub complain about amethyst censoring him but it turned out to be false.

3. How do you know it was intentional?

1. I don't. Sounds like you're still stuck in Twatterland.

2. What made it false?

3. It seems like it was since the Primal teams control trend lists.

Controlling a trend list means you control the narrative. Same thing centralized socials do. Same reason why everyone hates them now more than ever.

Trend lists don’t control the narrative. They’re optional lol

Lol yes, they are optional. But when one chooses a trend list... that creates a narrative😮‍💨.

And? I find it very valuable. Some days I don’t have time to scroll through my feed of nearly 500 users. So I check what is trending and it gives me a good idea on what happened today. Posts that have a lot engagement and zaps are not a perfect signal of what is important but it’s a decent one.

Ok. That's fine if you like it. As someone who has worked with VCs before, I'm always going to remain skeptical of their long-term intentions. Primal is no differen, imo.

That’s fair. I think all nostr clients will eventually have to act like businesses and find ways to monetize content. Devs can’t keep building off open sats donations forever. A lot of people will get very upset with the clients they’ve used for years. The beauty of nostr is that you can just switch to a different client. If amethyst starts censoring certain content about Trump and using algorithmic feeds, you’ll always have the option to go to a different client.

1. Deleted my twatter last year

2. Someone was literally talking to him through amethyst lmao

3. Seeming like it was doesn’t mean it actually was. Primal team made their own trend list. If you want a different trend list tell the devs of the app you use.

1. Good

2. Ok. I hadn't heard that.

3. Trend lists create narratives (centralized ones). Although just because it's a centralized narrative doesn't necessarily mean it's harmful. It's just that Primal has not seem to have made any meaningful progress toward breaking down their "walled garden of data" approach to promoting their client (or platform?). Fyi, for the most part, I don't really care for any trending notes. I post what I think is interesting or funny. That is about it.

3. If more clients made their own trend lists, would it still be a centralized problem? Since you have options to choose from many different trend lists, I wouldn’t see what the issue is. People like algorithmic feeds. By far, primal burns much less data than any other client I’ve used by a significant margin. It’ll get better with time, we are early.

For people who are against pre-configured trend lists and centralization, it may be. Is that not one of the main reasons why folks are leaving primal altogether? Like me. You really shouldn't generalize on people's appreciation (or lack there of) of algorithmic dependency. I don't like using things that run on algorithms. All my friends, my orange-pilled cousins, and sister left social media probably around a decade ago for that very reason. And none of them miss social media. Point is, that there are an abundance of others who hate algorithm-based media apps.

Also, don't forget kid, plenty of people post adult content on nostr without getting censored. And why don't likes from other clients show up on Primal? Because it's censored by their devs? Duh!

Kid? Is that supposed to upset me?

Likes from other clients show up on primal lol what are you talking about?

Why the fuck would someone build on nostr and then censor their users? Like actually give me one good reason because this is retarded. Primal isn’t even a profitable business yet so they can’t afford to censor anyone.

🙄🤨no, it was not. It's just an expression.

Perhaps for you. But for many others, no, they do not. This post of mine shows ten likes on Amethyst and, as you can see, only two on Primal. It does this with all my posts and comments. IIRC, they mentioned that this was fixed in a previous update yet I and many other npubs, who I've noticed in my feed, have brought this up.

I don't know. Ask them. I'm sure they'll spin some stupid excuse. The only semi-logical reason I can think of is to create narratives that focus on and promote strictly their own products and services. And most people are seemingly being censored only on Primal. If you use any other client, everything (likes, boosts etc.) shows up just fine. At least, on the other primary social clients that are used. If they're not profitable then they shouldn't be censoring people😮‍💨🤨. Just another mistake on their end. Just like how everyone realized that they do indeed collect advance search data on their server (unlike what it said in Apple's app store).

Also, you know you could've handled this calmly and just asked me these questions. No need to get worked up over a matter that doesn't impact you in any way.

I thought you meant the reactions lol like primal used to only show you hearts instead of other emoji reactions.

But yeah you’re right some notifications are missing. I’ve been having that issue with damus lately as well. It doesn’t mean you should immediately expect malicious intent. Primal has a pretty retarded caching relay. It has some benefits but it also has drawbacks. Part of it is that notifications get fucked up sometimes. I’m hoping that it’ll get cleaned up with time, it’s still really early.

Btw I only see 5 reactions on damus for that post. Does that mean damus is censoring you too? Are all these devs trying to build censorship on an open protocol where 99% of the users want censorship resistance? Hanlon’s razor says “never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.” Again we are early and there are bugs. Also, different clients filter out spam in different ways. Some are better than others.

They collect data on advanced search to optimize the search. They already addressed that. You don’t have to believe them if you don’t want to but it makes sense. They need some data to improve it 😂

I am not worked up haha

Again, VC-funded crap too often has malicious intent masqerading as benevolent ones. So, I'll steer clear of Primal.

Nope. I suspect it's a relay issue with Damus. Honestly, some devs could very well be doing that. People can be very easily deceived.

"to optimize the search"? Geee where have we heard that before?

Ok. Coulda fooled me. You seemed a bit agitated. Defining context is another thing I hate about using socials.

Primal made it clear early on that they plan on finding ways to make it profitable. I don’t expect them to do all this work for free.

Yes, i remember that post. I was in that discussion and was one of the many people who boosted Semisol's post. Pavle's narcissistic and condescending responses to all of our questions pissed many other devs and users off that day. It also did a big number on his and Primals rep. I still side with Will on that matter. Then they should've have taken GitCitadel's approach to gathering funds and not asked manipulative VCs (they almost always are).

Do you use an iPhone?
